We are proud to sponsor the Centre for Food Culture ‘Meet the Maker series’ for a special meadery tour and tasting at Kinsale Mead Co.

Kinsale Mead Co. was founded in 2017 by Kate and Denis Dempsey to rediscover the ancient art of mead making and create a world class range of Irish meads made in West Cork. Kinsale Mead Co. is the first new meadery in Ireland in 200 years and their award-winning meads are judged as among the best in the world – full of delicious flavours, fermented from carefully sourced pure honey and ripe berries. Mead (Miodh in Irish) is the world’s oldest alcoholic drink, unique in that its primary ingredient is honey but also incredibly diverse – it can range from bone dry to very sweet, which may surprise you when you think of pure honey as its main ingredient.

Join us in this unique opportunity to visit Kinsale Mead Co. where we will not only learn directly from the team at Kinsale Mead Co. about their meads, the history of mead and the mead making process, taste their meads and the honey they are made from, but also, enjoy a slightly longer visit to the meadery to try some interesting pairings with local artisan food including the very best of West Cork’s chocolate and cheese!

The tasting part of the tour is for people aged 18 and over only.
