Rioja Cosecha 2014 Bodegas Moraza
A Rioja played on savoury notes, rich fruit and elegance. The use of old oak barrels give depth and complexity, without adding any unneeded vanilla oaky flavours. A revelation.
‘My idea is to go back to the roots of Rioja, trying to produce very fresh and fruity wines, less tannic, with less colour in reds and with lower alcoholic levels.’ This is, in a nutshell, Janire Moraza’s philosophy. The organically grown grapes (and now in biodynamic conversion) are, apart from the oak aged ‘Cosecha’, fermented and aged in concrete vats to create energetic wines that are miles away from modern, over-extracted Riojas.
