Sheridans Cheesemongers

our story in good food

OUR BEGINNING

From a market stall in
Galway to today

Sheridans Cheesemongers began in 1995 when brothers Kevin and Seamus Sheridan set up stall in the Galway Market selling Irish Farmhouse Cheese. At a time when most Irish & European cheeses were unknown in Ireland, the idea was simple: to bring great cheese together in one place and share their stories with customers. Connections were made with the cheese producers around the country, and soon boxes of farmhouse cheeses began arriving from small farms and family dairies. Each cheese carried a sense of place; the landscape, the people who made it, and the traditions behind it. As those relationships grew, so did an understanding of the craft and care behind each cheese. Visits to farms across Ireland revealed the deep connection between the land, the animals, the makers and the food they produced. These early friendships with cheesemakers became the foundation of Sheridans Cheesemongers and continues today.
Soon they opened a shop in Galway with Irish farmhouse cheeses piled from floor to ceiling. The South Anne Street shop in Dublin city centre followed quickly and was opened in 1997. The Irish cheeses were quickly joined by their European cousins as well a range of other artisan foods including olive oils, cured meats, condiments and pasta sourced during travels in Europe. Those same connections developed with Irish cheesemakers and farmers were slowly developed with producers across Europe.
Over the next three decades Sheridans continued to open more outlets bringing farmhouse cheeses and great Artisan foods to customers across Ireland as well as sending Irish cheeses and our crackers to customers in the USA and Europe. Sheridans Cheesemongers remains a family owned and run business, led by Kevin and Rachel Sheridan along with a passionate and dedicated team.

OUR SHOPS

Sheridans Across Ireland

At Sheridans, great customer service has always been central to the experience. Cheese is something to be discovered, tasted and enjoyed, and our cheesemongers are here to guide customers through that journey. With knowledge built through years of working with producers and learning about the cheeses we sell, our team is always happy to share stories, offer advice and help find the right cheese for any occasion. Whether discovering something new or choosing an old favourite, we believe the best way to appreciate cheese and great foods is through conversation, curiosity and the simple pleasure of tasting.

Committed to good food & wine

We are passionately committed to sourcing quality artisan foods and forging links directly with our food producers. Many of our farmhouse cheeses and foods are handmade locally in Ireland and we have a wide selection of delicious artisan produce from all over Europe. We not only bring in products from great Artisans, we also collaborate with many producers to create new cheeses and foods, combining tradition and craft with innovation. We work with a great many Irish Farmhouse cheese makers including many of the ones we sourced our very first cheeses from, Gubbeen, Durrus, Coolea, Cashel, Knockanore and more. We have built relationships across Europe with many great cheesemakers and producers including Cravero Parmigiano Reggiano, Dongé Brie de Meaux, Marcel Petit Comté, Rustichella d’Abruzzo Pastas, Ortiz Seafood, Prunotto Italian Pasta sauces and preserves. Of course it is hard to be passionate about cheese without also developing a love of good wine. We have built a wine business in partnership with our friend and wine expert Enrico Fantasia of Grape Circus Wine. We source our wines directly from European vineyards who share our values; most of them farm organically and use natural winemaking methods. Our wines our available in our main shops and we supply many great restaurants across Ireland.
