Story

Fronton is an appellation in southwest France for rustic red wines (around 85 percent of output) plus rosé. The vineyard area lies around the town of the same name, just to the north of Toulouse. At least 50 percent of any Fronton vineyard must be planted with the local grape variety Negrette.

Producer

In 1991, Marc Penavayre took over and expanded Domaine Plaisance, his generations-old family estate. In the early 2000s Marc turned to a more environmentally friendly way of wine making: no chemicals, no fertilisers or weed killers, and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The main grape grown here is negrette, a local variety that produces deeply coloured wines with a distinctive spiciness.
