Azouro PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Azouro PDO Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a Portuguese Olive Oil, produced in the Northern region of Trás-os-Montes. Azouro maintains their strict Protected Designation of Origin by cold pressing the olives and bottling the oil in the district where the olives are harvested.
The oil has a sweetness to its taste with notes of almonds, a medium peppery bite and an elegant lasting finish. It has a balanced and harmonious flavour, with a fresh green fruity aroma and a precious golden green colour.
Irishman Stephen Firth spent 7 years living in Portugal, when he painstakingly restored a 200 year old farmhouse in the Northern region of Minho, complete with its own ancient olive trees, fruit trees and grape vines. Stephen partnered with a neighbouring olive oil producer to create Azouro oil in 2014. Trás-os-Montes and the Alto Douro is one of the best olive oil production areas in the world, where the ‘Terra Quente’ (Warm Land) climate and schist soils produce very delicate yet complex olive oils with a distinctly nutty aroma. Olive varietals are the indigenous; Verdeal, Madural & Cobrançosa. The inspiration for the design of the Azouro bottles comes from Portuguese Mosaic tiles, which can be seen all across the country from churches to stately buildings to traditional town houses.
