In 2010, Sheridans undertook to create the perfect cracker to accompany cheese. Along with baker Richard Graham Leigh in Clonakilty, Co Cork, we came up with a handmade range of crackers which we reckon fits the bill! The ingredients used in our crackers are strikingly simple. Our Irish Brown Bread Bread cracker; the core product in the range, uses just 4 traditional Irish ingredients, including buttermilk to impart the distinctive Irish Brown Bread taste. We were thrilled to win the Irish Food Writer’s Guild 2013 producer award for our crackers, as well as John and Sally McKenna’s Bridgestone award for best new artisan product in 2012.

More About Sheridans Irish Crackers…
We have wanted to create the perfect cracker for cheese for many years now, as luck would have it at the beginning of 2011, we met Richard and Jane Graham Leigh, who make a range of handmade biscuits in Dunmanway, West Cork. We described what we were looking for; something plain but tasty, crisp and quite thin. Many months of experimentation ensued; trying different ingredients, styles, shapes, adjusting thicknesses and salt content, trying different flours, experimenting with different types of oil and butter and deciding on the varieties. During our very first meeting, we came up with the idea of a brown bread cracker using buttermilk, and this particular experimentation was probably the most exciting part of the process, as it has resulted in a truly unique cracker, which we see as the core product in the range. The ingredients are strikingly simple and Irish as much as is possible, mostly in fact sourced in close proximity to the bakery itself. Apart from being perfect for cheese boards, these crisp and delicious crackers are ideal for use in canapés.
